Humphrey Davy - Scientific Experiments and Poetry?

The following is an excerpt from the author Margaret Wilson about the Penshurst literary connections to Kent.

 

 A rather surprising poem in 1811 was by Humphrey Davy, who is more well known for his scientific experiments and Miners' Safety Lamp. A friend of the Lake poets, he often stayed with the Children family at Ferox Hall, opposite Tonbridge School. His poem 'Penshurst' reflects his visits to the place: 'Through thy deserted chambers have I walked Musing on elder times'
