Haslar Hospital Memories Find!

Yesterday I had the pleasure of listening to Lilian Harry talk to a group of eager and loyal readers about her writing, research and the roots of her stories in local places.  She spoke about how researching often took her on unexpected tangents.  In the Florence Nightingale library in St Thomas's Hospital she came across an autobiogrpahy of a former Voluntary Aid Detachment (VAD) nurse at the Royal Hospital Haslar in Gosport - she used the book as the framework for her well loved novel 'A Girl Called Thursday'.  The nurse's husband was still alive and the author befriended him, he was delighted with the portrayal of his Margaret in the novel.  He attended the launch of the follow up novel that took place at Haslar.
