The Play Room Find!

Olivia Manning (1908-1980) is best known for her Balkan Trilogy and Levant Trilogy, produced for the BBC some years ago under its collective title The Fortunes of War, starring the young Branagh and Thompson.

Olivia was born in Portsmouth where her father was a naval officer.  She set her late book 'The Play Room' in and around the city, in the fictional seaside town of Camperlea.  This short book explores teenage ambition, limitations of place and family, sexuality and peer worship.
