Gypsy Girl Trilogy Find!

Children's writer Elizabeth Arnold has lived for a number of years in the New Forest and it was witnessing the lives of the Romany families, who travel through and camp in the Forest, that gave her the idea for her Gypsy Girl trilogy.

Actually Elizabeth never intended to write a trilogy at all and the first book in the trilogy, The Parsley Parcel, started life as a short story of 3000 words. It was only after discussing the story with the editor to whom she sent it that the story started to grow and ended up as a full length children's book. And then the characters wouldn't go away and Elizabeth wrote two further books about the life of Freya - the gypsy girl of the trilogy title.

The New Forest provides a perfect setting for these books and Elizabeth has spoken of how she gained her inspiration while out walking her dogs in the Forest.

The Parsley Parcel was shortlisted for the Whitbread Children's Award and the trilogy was made into a TV series for ITV.
