Writing on the Wall Find!
Writing on the Wall is probably best described as a kind of portfolio or collection of writing arising from a very special creative writing project which ran from 2001 to 2006.
It was an international project based on Hadrian's Wall and involved poets, writers and artists working with local communities along the original line of the wall from Wallsend and South Shields in the North East, to Bowness-on-Solway and Ravenglass in Cumbria.
The poets and writers working on the project were from Cumbria, Northumberland, and Tyne & Wear and included the Cumbrian writers Jacob Polley (the author of an earlier Cumbria find) and Angela Locke, as well as Jim Eldridge and Janni Howker. However in addition, the project also commissioned writers from countries that garrisoned the wall
The book is a fascinating collection made up of prose and poetry which is inspired by the place and by history, explanatory and interpretive text, and a number of interesting, dramatic and engaging photographs.
A really unique and imaginative book which is the legacy of a unique and imaginative project.
